Hello there, I'm currently with Koodo and was considering switching my phone to a Nokia 3710. The main reason for the switch would be to have access to the Nokia maps and A-GPS functionality.

I know this functionality exists on the Nokia 3710 available from Telus. Is it also available on the Nokia 3710 available from Koodo or do they have different "wireless provider-dependent" firmware on these phones? (on the Koodo website the A-GPS functionality for that phone is not advertised)

I do not intend to use a data plan from my GPS usage as my understanding is that Nokia provides software (OVI) that allows one to download relevant maps offline i.e. directly to the phone from a PC via USB. One can then store these maps on a microSD and perform GPS navigation strictly offline. Has anyone here used OVI before and can confirm this?

Thanx for your input!

halherta,

Greetings.

Ovi Maps offline support with S40 devices such as 3710 fold... hmm, the best you can do is getting the maps loaded but A-GPS must rely of active data connection. Also, Navigation is NOT free... http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/t5/Other-Nokia-Phones/3710-Fold-Why-no-free-navigation/m-p/636030/highlight/true
