I have the Sony w580i and I think it's a great phone. Lots of cool features and the walkman is nice. Upgrading soon but I'll be hanging on to the Sony as a spare. Any one else have this phone and had any issues with it? Mine has been problem free so far I've only had it a year though.

Its a nice upgrade from the previous walkman phones, unfortunately my w580i was stolen. But it was great device, mainly bought it because of the walkman feature.

a good friend has the w580i , her battery life is so bad, is anyone else having the same issue, with a lot of texting and few calls, is the battery life that bad?

my battery life is excellent. have had the phone just over 1 year and battery performance has not decreased at all!
a typical charge can last me all week (phone powered on all times)
i send a dozen or so texts and maybe 20 minutes of talk each week
one setting to change is the screen brightness from 100% to the lowest 50%. while this change is not noticeable to the eye it should preserve the battery a bit longer.

I find the battery to be good. I usually charge it every other day. I text a fair bit and usually listen to an hour or so of music everyday.

The battery is pretty good, considering I use it to play music straight from the phone's speaker. It is a bit of a fragile phone though, cracked keys are common, and the soft keys on mine have gotten all messed up.. Great phone though, but if you can afford it the w760(I think?) is a step up, with 3g, and looks a little stronger.

The phone itself is very weak... my camera broke on the w580i

Yeah my camera broke also and the soft keys sometimes come off or move around, but all around a pretty cool phone with good features

Exactly, great features, great phone, short lifespan.

I think I cursed my phone. Since I said how good it is the dpad won't go to the right and the other keys are all wonky ha ha. It must know my upgrade is right around the corner.

only problem I've had is my 3 key cracked, if you look around on ebay though you can find replacement keypads, pretty cheap and easy to replace. apart from that I have no complaints, I've dropped it countless times on cement from pretty high up and still hold strong.

take off the top faceplate and remove the directional pad. blow off the device (as some particles may be trapped under neither) then put back together.

How do you take the face plate off? I figured I'd ask before I destroyed it

I just sold my 580 to a guy that needed the screen, i guess he got one of the bad ones. I'm kinda sad to let that one go

I've had my W580 for about two years. It looks great, has cool features (more so if you flash the firmware), good battery life, but it's very poorly built!! I suspect SE may have improved the construction in newer builds, since I bought mine not long after it was released. The slider mechanism has always felt sketchy, and only two months after buying the phone I had 4 cracked keys. A few months later the soft keys became a little hit-and-miss, and then just short of one year after buying the phone my screen went crazy, and I couldn't use the phone.
I sent it in for warranty repair, and then two weeks after getting it the screen died again! I got it back from the repair depot (the second time) about two months ago, and so far it's worked quite well, and the build seems a little more solid, so maybe they're using some better parts now?

Well this was really a nice phone,it has an attractive, easy-to-use design, a satisfying feature set, and admirable call quality, I just love this phone, and the keypad has sensibly-sized keys that light up in use and are easy to press.
